Denise  Thanepohn, O.D. 

Dr.  Denise Thanepohn has been an optometric physician at Alaska Eye Care Centers since 1981 and is a graduate of Illinois College of Optometry and is Board Certified.  She spent her first year of practice in Ban Yao Refugee Camp, Thailand, where she worked as part of a multidisciplinary health care team helping the Hmong people. She is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor with Pacific University College of Optometry and an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Alaska Optometric Association and local optometric societies.


Dr. Thanepohn lives in Anchorage with her husband Dan Dieckgraeff, and four children.  She enjoys hiking , cross country skiing with her family, helping at her children’s schools and  traveling.

Patrick  Reber, O.D. 

Dr. Reber moved to Anchorage from Houston, Texas in 1993 shortly after his graduation from the University of Houston school of Optometry to join Alaska Eye Care Centers.  He’s an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor with Pacific University College of Optometry and an active member of both the American and Alaska Optometric Associations for many years and also holds licenses in Texas and Oklahoma and is Board Certified. He is very active in the community and currently holds the title of Clinical Director for the Special Olympics Opening Eyes vision screening program.  He has been associated with this program since 1999 when he was trained in North Carolina at the World Summer Games.


Dr. Reber is certified in CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy).  He has also taken time to speak on radio and television about the importance of eye care and occasionally does presentations at elementary and middle schools.


He and his wife Michelle have been married since 1997 and they live in Eagle River with their 3 children; Jasmine and twin sons, Alex and Michael.

James  Falconer, Jr., O.D.

Dr. “Jim, Jr.” was born and raised in Anchorage.  He graduated from New England College of Optometry in 1998 and joined Alaska Eye Care Centers in August of the same year.  Prior to practicing optometry, he completed a doctorate in biomedical imaging research at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston.


Dr. Jim was the President of the Alaska Optometric Association in 2010 and is immediate past president.  He is also an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor with Pacific University College of Optometry and an active member of the American Optometric Association .  He is also actively involved in diabetic community services . Dr. Jim’s wife, Kathy, is a teacher, and they have two children.  He enjoys the outdoors, skiing, soccer and tennis. 

Ladd  Nolin, O.D.

Dr. Nolin was born and raised in Wolf Point, Montana .  He did his undergraduate work at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree and a major in Biology in 1997. He graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2002 and did a year of Residency at the Roseburg Veterans Administration in Roseburg, Oregon.  He joined Alaska Eye Care Centers in July of 2003.  He is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor with Pacific University College of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association and the Alaska Optometric Association.


Dr. Nolin lives in Anchorage and is an outdoorsman, regularly enjoying  fly fishing, hunting, hiking and snowboarding. 

Ian Ford, O.D.

Dr. Ford graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2007 and joined Alaska Eye Care Centers in July of the same year.  He is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor with Pacific University College of Optometry and is a member of the Alaska Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. 


Dr. Ford is actively involved in the community and “Big Brothers, Big Sister’s Of Alaska“ . He enjoys traveling,  golfing and mountain biking.

Joshua Cook, O.D.

Dr. Cook did his undergraduate work at Brigham Young University where he received his bachelors degree in biology and attended Optometry School at the University of Houston College of Optometry graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2009.  He is excited about all aspects of optometry; from pediatrics to difficult to fit contact lenses and ocular disease.  He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Alaska Optometric Association.


Dr. Cook is married to his wife, Brooke, and they have three wonderful children – two boys and a girl.   He enjoys being outdoors and doing activities such as hiking, fishing, camping and skiing.  His most favorite activities are those spent with his family.
